Tonight, I am just siting here catching Joe Henderson in Japan. What a piece of work. It is Jazz History. The recording date was the August 4, 1971. Joe Henderson goes to Japan and plays with some local cats. The electric piano by this guy named Hideo Ichikawa is mesmerizing, not to mention Henderson piloting the sax in Junk Blues, and Blue Bossa. In the liner notes it states in relevant part: According to jazz historian Bill Kirchner, Joe Henderson in Japan “is one of the handful of records from the late Sixties and early Seventies to be studied like a textbook by the most advanced young musicians. It’s that kind of a record.” So true, My Brother.
